Thought I would write another blog on Sammi. There isnt anything major to share but he has really settled in well and seems to be showing his personality more. He will allow me to tickle him much more now and will come running over to me in his cage for a scratch. He is a master at opening his cage on his own so Ive had to put a quicklink on to stop him coming out as he pleases!

He steps up lovely for me now with his perch so getting him back in his cage is easy. He seems to be warming to Tweak although a week or so back they were out together and he attacked her, more out of fear I think. She wasnt hurt but its not something I will be doing again in a hurry! Dil has mentioned getting another Pak-O-Bird so Sammi can come camping with us too! I think he would really enjoy that as he seems to love being out on his harness.

He adores his morning toast. He will sit there til every crum has gone. He doesnt seem as keen on mash or pellets as Tweak is but he will eat it, maybe Im doing wrong comparing the two of them like that? I made the mistake of leaving him unattended in the bird room a few days ago. I thought he would just sit in the tree or on his cage, how wrong was I! I came back in to total mayhem, he had destroyed a full roll of kitchen roll, chewed at my doors and made a general mess! He looked like he had alot of fun, and the mess was easily cleared so no harm done :0) I will be going to the stafford show in July and getting him a few new wooden toys for his cage.

Sammis nails were getting rather long so I got Dil to get an emery board and give him a bit of a manicure. He actually seemed to enjoy it!!

I actually feel physically sick with adrenaline right now. I just had Sammi on my lap and gave him a tickle!! I was so worked up over getting bitten but I really feel Ive overcome a hurdle with him and he trusts me more. Its made my day!!!

Today we got Sammi’s ‘coat’ on and took him outside to stretch his wings! We think this may be the first time in his 33 years that he has been harnessed and taken out so we feel a real big achievement in having done it. He clung so hard to Dil but at the same time looked so excited to be outside and ‘free’ instead of in his cage. He had a little flap and fly around, he sampled a few odd logs we have dotted about and he walked on the grass. It was a beautiful sight to see and we are so proud of him. After bringing him inside I was talking to him and he never fluffed up. I offered him a sunflower seed and he stuck his little tongue out, licked my finger and so gently took the seed! I was so happy that he never ripped my finger off along with it. HaHa! He is such a little character, we love him so much and cant imagine being without him now. Im even trying to persuade Dil to get a Pak-O-Bird for him, but he has to be 100% on it as only he can really handle Sammi. Here are some pics of him enjoying the garden.

Sammi is getting better at me handling him now. He will step up onto the perch for me nicely so I can take him round the house or to his favourite place, the shower!! He just loves a good soaking and starts getting all excited when I take him into the bathroom. Its nice being able to do something he enjoys without Dil having to be there.
